Ukrainian Top Officials Accused in Staging Faina Drama
Boba Bobik | Feb 15 2009

At last, epopee with Faina, a ship hired to bring Russian ammunition in Kenya from Odessa Port of the Ukraine, captured by Somali pirates in open sea, was finished as a ship owner, an Israeli businessman, had paid $US 3 millions ransom.

On arrival in the Ukraine, robbed-to-bones sailors told a real story of their ordeal and accused Ukrainian top officials in staging the hijack: - Immediately as Faina left Odessa Port, a call from a Georgian-registered mobile was done from Odessa to the pirates in Somalia - Pirates where acquainted with deliberations in the Ukrainian Rada (the State Parliament) much prior info had been officially released - President Yuschenko meeting the sailors on the Ukrainian soil at airport was accused in not acting sufficiently - It is estimated, of $US 4+ millions allocated by an owner just $US3 millions were paid to pirates directly.

Perhaps, Faina crew-members will not share a fate of journalists and public activists of “samostijnaya (independent) Ukraine” for a truth they disclosed.

The UN and international bodies should seriously study an incident prior to any anti-piracy international agreement to be arranged practically.
